Character Motivation: Most of Eleanor's motivation is... Eleanor. What's best for HER and what will get HER the best possible outcome. This was mostly evident before death. A great example is her ditching the coworkers she was a designated driver for because she could get laid. They told her if she left she could never drink with them again and she peaced out. After death her motivation is still pretty selfish, but she actually cares about some other people, too. But that circle of people she cares about is pretty small. Namely 3 humans, one demon, and one... whatever the hell Janet is. She's discovered a fierce loyalty and will shank anyone who hurts her friends.
Personality: Eleanor Shellstrop is a train wreck in a trash bag tied up in a big sparkly bow. But she’s trying to be better.
Eleanor’s personality needs to be broken down into two parts: Before Death (BD) and After Death (AD).
BD she was a terrible, terrible person. She was selfish, self-centered, and sour. Raised by two equally trashy humans, she never learned how to be a good person. Instead, she learned to fend for herself to the level that she openly rejects all help. She balanced it by doing nothing for anyone else. Thus, no one owed anyone anything. She had no problem lying to get what she wanted. In fact, it came quite easily to her and she made good money doing it. Much of her time was spent figuring out how to make things work the best in her favor, often at the expense of others. Examples of this were leaving a dog she was watching with mountains of food so she could go to a Rhianna concert (the dog became irreparably overweight as a result) and the many loopholes and excuses she found/made to avoid being the designated driver for her drinking buddies from work. The capstone moment was the day she died: After loading up on shrimp, junk food, and margarita mix (and cashing out her full cart at the express lane) she got into a heated conversation with a guy who was just looking to share information about saving the whales. Instead of just ignoring him she proceeded to tell him precisely how little she cared about his existence (she forgot about him the moment he was out of her sight). When he asked her why she was like that, she turned, dropping her margarita mix. Promptly blaming him for gravity, she bent to pick it up… then was smashed to the ground by a runaway line of shopping carts and run over by a billboard truck advertising dick pills.
AD she quickly discovered she wasn’t supposed to be in “the Good Place” and decided to become a better person. Contrary to all of Michael’s predictions, she actually stuck with the lessons and they made a difference in how she behaved. For once in her existence she actually started caring about other people. She wanted to help keep the others safe and, when Michael joined forces with them, wanted to help him reach the Good Place, too. She’d become self-aware enough to recognize the toxic habits she had and be able to help Michael when he did the same. Habits like feeling she was too dumb so she lashed out and pushed everyone away, or blaming everyone else but her (or as she called it “the blame hose”).
By and large there are still loads of her BD bad habits lurking below the surface but AD Eleanor actually thinks about what she’s doing and has to argue with herself before falling back on them. She can still be an absolute garbage person, but she’s learning to care about people other than herself. Of course that mostly means caring about the people she already knows but maybe she can learn to care about some new people, too.
Canon Strength/Weaknesses: Her #1 weakness is shrimp. No joke. She loves shrimp. And booze.
Seriously, though. She's discovered she has a weakness when it comes to how loyal she is to her friends. Though she doesn't remember some of the times this happened, there have been multiple occations when she's potentially sacrificed herself to save her friends. She considers this a weakness because she still loves herself more. She's also super immature in almost every way but the hardest to deal with is her emotional immaturity. She's not used to dealing with feelings and that's still scary.
Her biggest strength is her ability to lie her ass off and bullshit her way out of almost every situation. Also finding loopholes for just about anything. She doesn't realize it but she's also really good at making friends... when she doesn't drive them away.
Apprentice Sorcerer Application
Class: Fairy. Eleanor is inherently selfish. Most of her motivation in life has been to do what is best for HER. This has changed and she makes that very clear. Very often. She doesn't hide her feelings well. She can and is an incredible liar, but if it matters she's more likely to just blurt something out and deal with the fallout later.
Element: Water. SHRIMP. But seriously, she can be a fluid social chameleon and mold herself to fit anything... if she wants to. She can also destroy shit in an instant.

First Person Sample:
[The mirror is opened and the first view is a very unattractive one of Eleanor yawning broadly, her free hand half down her shirt as she scratches an itch. Clearly she's just woken up. Blinking blearily, she makes a face and lets out a nice big morning fart.
It's then that she realizes that she hadn't picked up a regular mirror, she'd picked up the fucking magic mirror thing and turned it on. Her eyes open in horror and her jaw slowly drops.]
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me.
[The mirror is snapped shut and the feed cuts out for about half an hour. When it opens again, she looks far more put together. She's wearing makeup and brushed out her hair and smiles (though it doesn't completely meet her eyes).]
Heeeeeeeey, so if we can just all agree to pretend that never happened that'd be cool.
[She clears her throat, looking around awkwardly.]
Yeah, so, I don't know what the hell people do on this thing. Like, is this supposed to be like facetime or "vlogging" or whatever the fuck those lame-ass youtubers do? Gotta be honest, though, I don't really care. Don't expect to see this face on here too much... unless I get really wasted which... might happen. Actually, does anyone know how to put, like, a child lock on this? You know... something I can't unlock if I'm drunk... or really tired?
